"What happens when visibility matters more than truth, when a well-positioned news story becomes more powerful than a proven fact?"

On April 8, at Milan's Palazzo Mezzanotte, headquarters of the Italian Stock Exchange, Enea Angelo Trevisan presented his Italian-language book L'Industria delle Bugie (The Industry of Lies) in a highly symbolic setting: in front of Maurizio Cattelan's iconic L.O.V.E. sculpture, the most controversial work by Italy's most celebrated contemporary artist.
The event was moderated by Alessandro Sallusti, the Italian journalist and commentator who previously served as editor-in-chief of Il Giornale and Libero. Also in attendance was Luca Palamara, who wrote the book's foreword. Palamara is a former Italian magistrate, politician, and member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM).
Published by Ealixir Editions, the book is not an attack on the Internet, but rather an examination of what the Internet has become: a system in which information is no longer merely reported, but produced, selected, repeated, and amplified according to industrial mechanisms. At its core is a sharp reflection on how digital information shapes reality, reputation, and judgment.
Trevisan explores what he defines as the contemporary industry of lies, where fake news, ambiguous headlines, ranking algorithms, and artificial intelligence contribute to the construction of persistent narratives that often operate independently of the underlying facts.
The book argues that truth is no longer simply discovered—it is reconstructed. In the digital ecosystem, what prevails is not necessarily what is true, but what is most effectively positioned and amplified.
One of the book's central messages is encapsulated in a statement by the author:
"The only truly effective tool we possess is our critical thinking. It does not mean always having all the answers, but learning to recognize the right questions."
The quotation serves as a key to understanding the book's broader purpose: not to offer shortcuts or easy solutions, but to encourage awareness, discernment, and intellectual responsibility in an increasingly complex information landscape.
